Writing the Queer and the Quotidian (Wednesday Evenings)
For many of us in the LGBTQ+ community, voicing and writing our truth feels especially dangerous (and often for good reason.) A lack of queer-focused support in workshops and classrooms has often strangled our voices (or worse.) This writing class will build a safe community in which we can explore any topic without having to proffer a backstory, provide unnecessary definitions, or, most important, without feeling shame.
Using short prompts and free-writing, we will generate brave and true stories, some funny, some tragic, some a glorious blend. In a workshop of strength-based feedback and active listening, we will make space for all the profound, vibrant, tragic, sensual stories of our lives—we will cherish both the sacred and the profane, the queer and the quotidian. This 6-week online class is appropriate for writers of all levels--even for those who do not consider themselves writers but who have a story to tell. We will create new work, form a community, and celebrate various aspects of identity.
